Memories of Regatta
We look forward to posting tributes to one of the finest school and show horses that ever was. Erika was first to send a tribute, printed below. Pictures coming soon.
Reggie, old WONDERFUL Reggie!!! It's so sad that hes gone!!! But I'm glad if he had to go he went peacefully. I remember over the summer I showed him at a Longacres show. We went in a cross-rails class and before it Meghan had said to me Reggie's golden. At the show against probably at least 10 other, younger horses Reggie won me the blue ribbon and trophy! I remeber Erica showed him too and she did really well. Everyone who has ridden Reggie knows how awesome he was!!!! I know one time at camp they let Reggie go loose in the ring with the other horses with people riding them and when they trotted Reggie trotted. He was such a wonderful horse!!! He was perfect in every way!!!!!!! I was told that when he was younger he always won the hunter and hack classes. Everyone dreams of having a horse like Reggie!! I know I did!!! I'm glad I got to ride Reggie, he could teach you soo much! And always no matter what he always had his head sticking out of his stall door (if he wasnt eating) just to say hi! I'm glad I got to meet Reggie and ride him. He was such a great horse and I know a lot of people will miss him!! I will!!!
ok thats it!! aww i cried soo much while writing that!!! oh yea I have to ask my parents about coming up that weekend but im sure it will be ok. well i'll talk to you later!! bye

Although I never Knew or rode Reggie, All the pictures on the site it looked like Reggie was the best horse at longacres. When I hear that Reggie had passed away, I started to cry. When you lose a horse, It seems like you are losing a best friend. Reggie was loved by many of the campers at longacres, as it seems. Reggie was a great horse. And I wish I could have rode him! But for now Reggie is still is our hearts and we will never forget Regatta.

Tom,
I’m so sorry to hear about Reggie! He was a very memorable horse, and I just had to write something about him. He was so sweet and mellow, and willing to do anything. I rode him on a trail ride and in a short lesson during camp and he was awesome! He was one of the most responsive and compliant horses I’ve ever ridden. It was THE best trail ride I’ve been on; I’m not kidding. Nothing rattled him, and his gaits were awesome! I’m really glad you gave me the chance to ride him. I know he was Erica’s favorite and she must be devastated. It’s so tragic that he is gone, and I know he can never really be replaced. I only have one photo of him, with Erica in the saddle. Now I wish I had taken more! Here’s the pic:

Even though i never have ridden reggie, i have herd how great he was. From Erika, Erica, Joetta and everyone else who how the wonderful chance to spend some time with reggie. When you lose a horse, it is a great loss for everybpdy that was near or close to that horse. But reggie went peacefully, and if he had to im glad he went that way. I wish i had the chance to meet reggie before he passed away, but i didn't get my chance. I bet there will be great horse at Longacres in the future, like reggie but none of them will come as close to perfection as he did. Rest in peace Regatta.

Hi Tom! I'm sorry to hear about Reggie. Other then Stoney he was my favoratie and I have to admit I did cry when I read what happened. He was a great horse, though he had this talent for getting lame the night before the show he never ceised to amaze me with his talent of patience which helped greatly during drill team, or how he trudged through the trails on the trail rides. I will miss Reggie. If I find any pictures I will send them to you!

From Instructor Lisa, who knew Reggie as well as anyone at Longacres!

For Reggie:Anyone that knew Reggie knows how special he was. Thinking way back to 1995, my second year at LA, I remember what an uncoordinated, somewhat pathetic rider I was. For my first show at Longacres that summer, I wanted to take Little Dipper in a Long Stirrup division because I just thought she was a cool pony. I was convinced by many other Reggie fans to take him instead because he can make ANY rider look like a star. And they were right. We were champion that day. For the rest of the summer, I was a Reggie rider. I rode him for the rest of the summer and took home the Long Stirrup Season Champion award.
That same summer, Priya took Reggie in the hack classes at Erie County Fair, competing against some of the fanciest horses around. Out of twenty-something horses, the judge just couldn't take her eyes off of Reggie. They won every hack class and ended up champion.
Reggie was a horse a little girl always dreamed about, but never really thought you'd be able to ride in real life. Reggie was a dream horse. With his wild mane and his long flowing white tail, I picture this magnificent dream horse cantering off into the sunset with his horsey friends. I feel so lucky to have known and ridden Reggie. He will be missed and will always be in our memories.

Hi Tom,
I just read the newsletter....and i just found out about Reggie. EVERYONE
knows that Reggie has always been my favorite, and at this point i dont
really know what to say. Last summer was kind of hard for everyone because
Reggie was getting old, and couldnt be ridden that often. I remember i was
the only one who really rode him during the second session, because i wanted
to ride him in the fair. I was REALLY upset when i couldnt. I guess when i
look back at my 2 summers, i smile every time i remember the first time i
rode him in a show...and i came out with my first championship. He took care
of me every single time we went into the show ring, i know he took care of
everyone. There will never be another horse like Reggie, he was not only a
GREAT show horse, but he also had a great personality. Geeze i dont really
know what to say....other then he was my FAVORITE horse and i will ALWAYS
remember him, as will everyone else.
